What is Voting ?

Voting is a method for a group, such as a meeting or an electorate, in order to make a collective decision or express an opinion usually following discussions, debates or election campaigns. Democracies elect holders of high office by voting .

What is election ?

Election is a process in which we can elect our leader to mantain and work for society and country . 

Election System 

before we talk about election system , we talk about indian government structure and its rules . 

Note - The Constitution of India follows the Federalism system. 


There are two type of government of india . 

  1. Central Government 
  2. State Government 

1 . Central Goverment  


parliament of india - The Parliament of India is the supreme legislative body of the Republic of India.

Parliament is made up of two houses. 
  1. Rajya Sabha ( Upper House )
  2. Lok sabha  ( Lower House )
  • Parliament makes law with the help of these two houses. 
  • And after passing the Laws By Limit, it is applied by the President all over the country.
According to the indian constitution ,

  • maximum - 250 
  • and current provision member - 245
Member of Lok sabha 


  • maximum - 552 
  • current member - 545

So all these members who are there, they have a meeting related to the law, which is in front of the president. And the president has the right.

Lok sabha election 


  • These elections occur every 5 years.
  • Its members are directly voted and elected by the people of India.
  • total seat - 545 , Nominated by President - 2 seat for anglo indian 
  • , and remaining seat no . - 543 
  • thats remaining seat alocated each states by population and area . 
  • Whichever party has to win more than 50% of the seats won .
  • and thats party gives us prime minister . 

Rajya Sabha election 


  • Not directly public elect 
  • MLA choose Rajya sabha member 
  • Total seats - 250 , 12 seat elect by President . and remains elect by MLA . It elected by all over india . President appoint those member who have special knowledge of the field lik arts , sports and liturature . 
  • Work for 6 years.
  • one third seat election every 2 year .

State Government election 


  • MLA elected by people . 
  • every 5 year election conducted 
  • every states have own time table to elect . 
  • One has to win >50% of the seats to win.

How to Vote india 


  •  Citizens above the age of 18 will be eligible to vote in the India Assembly elections. To cast a vote in India or a state assembly, one has to fill 'Form 6' and present it to the elected registration officer of his / her constituency. After proper verification, the person's name as a voter is included in the voter list.

  • Along with Form 6, one has to submit pass size photographs and copies of proof of age and residence. Form 6 is required to enroll a new voter and obtain a voter ID card. Any person who is more than 18 years of age can fill the form.

  • Only those citizens can cast their vote whose names have been included in the Electoral Roll. To search for your name in the electoral rolls, use the Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number mentioned on your voter ID card. You can also search by name. The Roll contains the details of Polling Station including Name, Address, and Serial Number.


Am I eligible to vote without Voter ID card?



If you have a name on the voter list, you are eligible to vote, even if you do not have a voter ID card. In such cases, individuals have to carry any one of the following photo ID proofs:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • PAN Card
  • Passport
  • Driving License
  • Bank Passbook
  • Pension document with photo
  • MNREGA Job Card
  • Health Insurance Smart Card
  • Authenticated Photo Voter Slip
  • Official ID cards issued to MLAs/MPs/MLCs

 Notes -   Name should appear in voter list


  • Voter ID alone is not enough to cast a vote; Any person can vote only if his name appears in the voter list, also known as the voter list.
  • If your name appears in the voter list, you are eligible to vote otherwise you will have to register to place a bet.

How to Vote #India :  If you are in the voter list, you can confirm this:


  • Login to the elected roll
  • Call the voter helpline 1950 (add your STD code before dialing first)
  • SMS EPIC Number 1950 (EPIC means Electors Photo Identity Card, also known as Voter ID Card)
  • Use the 'Voter Helpline App' to verify your name in the voter list


How to Vote #India : Voting Process at Polling Booth



  • Once you reach the polling booth to cast your vote, the first polling officer will check your ID proof by putting your name in the voter list.
  • The second voting officer will bite your finger, give you a slip and take your signature on a register (Form 17A).
  • Then, you need to submit a slip to the third polling officer, show your inked finger and then go to the polling station.
  • Cast your vote on the electronic voting machine (EVM) by pressing the ballot button opposite the symbol of the candidate of your choice. You can press NOTA (none of the above), if you don't like any of the candidates; This is the last button on the EVM.
  • Once you vote, you will hear a beep sound and see a slip that appears in the transparent window of the VVPAT machine. This chip contains the candidate's serial number, name, and symbol and appears for 7 seconds before it falls into the sealed VVPAT box.

  • Mobile phones, cameras and other gadgets are not allowed inside a polling booth.
  • Voters can find information on website or app.
  • Voters can also find information on Polling Booths, Contesting candidates, Election Dates & Timings, Identity cards and Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) on the election commission website or on ‘Voter Helpline App’.
